1. Location :-
The Progressive Farmer Group is having four farms under their holding out of which three are located in Kutch district of Gujarat and one farm in adjoining district of Surendranagar in Gujarat State,India. Kutch district of Gujarat State, spread over approx. 45612 sq. kms. area enjoys the status of being largest district in India. Greater Rann of Kutch as well as part of Little Rann of Kutch comprises major part of the district. The district has highly erratic rains and receive precipitation in the range of 100 mm. to 500 mm per annum with a long term average of approx. 300 mm. The Dhangadhra town of Surendranagar district where fourth farm is located is also very close to Kutch district having similar climatic conditions. The head quarter and office address of the group is as follows.

2. Holdings :-
The group has 17individual farmers and four integrated farms spread over 375 acre land under various horticultural crops in their holding.

3. Climate :-
The area has a typical semi-Arid climate of a coastal district. It receives scanty and highly erratic rain as well as extremes of temperature resulting into high rate of evapo-transpiration. The South West monsoon sets around 20th June. Major rainfall occur in the months of July-August. No. of rainy days range between 10 to 25 in a year. Temperature ranges between as low as 5oC in winter to as high as 47oC in summer. It has one of the highest diurnal difference in temperature in the state due to proximity to desert area and desertific climate.Relative humidity is between 25 % (Summer) to 65 % (Monsoon). The area experience frequent gales and storms in and around monsoons. General speed of wind throughout the year is also high.
4. Cropping Pattern :-
All the four farms under the holdings of the progressive farmers group are developed over highly undulating fallow land. All the farms are developed within last 4 years (in the year 2002)through integrated and well laid down plans and are irrigated through Drip-Irrigation Systems. All the farms are having Mango, (Keshar variety), Date palms,Bijora( Citrus medica), Coconut, Aonla(Emblica officinalis),custard apple (ON very small scale), etc as main crops.Crop like pulses, grains, vegetables, etc. are grown for home consumption . Thus, all the four farms are more or less exclusively horticulture farms under major horticulture species of the area.
5. Internal Control System :-
The progressive farmer group exercises control over farm activities through its group leader and with the help of a well qualified field officer employed by the group for this purpose. The filed officer visits each farm at least once in a month and minutely inspects farm practices and activities as well as farm records kept. He provides guidance to farm managers and labourers regarding correct practices and aberrations if any. He reports his observations to the group head office and based on it, group leader initiates appropriate actions.
