Proposal to Revise USDA Organic Regulation

The US National Organic Program has put out a proposal to revise the USDA organic regulation, with a view to strengthening oversight and enforcement in the organic supply chain. The US being the world’s biggest organic market—and this proposed regulation being the most comprehensive revision ever proposed to US organic regulation since its original adoption—the rule change could have a huge impact on the global organic sector.

The USDA has opened a public consultation period which ends on October 5, 2020. The information on the proposed new rule, the comments already submitted, and instructions on how to submit comments are available here.

The public consultation is open to all stakeholders, regardless of whether or not they are located in the United States.
